What's Happening at The Mag

March 9 – March 15, 2025

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Fr. Bill would like to thank you for your faithfulness in attendance for the Ash Wednesday service. In the two services (noon and 6:00 pm) virtually the entire church attended one of those services. This is the best start to Lent we have ever had.

Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend.

Spring forward one hour before you go to bed Saturday night,

RIGHT NOW MEDIA

(A GREAT SOURCE FOR LENTEN BIBLE STUDIES)

The Vestry voted to extend the subscription to Right Now Media for the coming year. According to their records thirty-one members of our parish have used this program in the past year. The hospitality food pantry group has stuffed every food bag with a Right Now Media flyer. Our hope is that it not only be a great study tool for you as the parishioners but also a great evangelical tool to give people access to sound, Biblical, orthodox teaching if they have access to a computer. Additionally, there is wonderful entertainment media for children. If you have not used Right Now Media yet, please pick up a flier (on the table in the Narthex) use the QR code and download the program. We hope and pray this will help us to grow.

FREE BOOKS!

We have a wonderful selection of free books in the Parish Hall beside the front door. You may select something that interests you and keep it or return it for someone else to read.

FOOD PANTRY /  WINTER WEATHER CLOTHING

Cold weather has arrived and we regularly have people coming in looking for warm clothing. We need coatsjacketsgloveswarm socks, etc. We have a special need for men’s clothing: pants--waist size 32-40; shirts--medium, large and extra large.

We thank those of you who are bringing in items for the food pantry. We continue to need canned goods such as meats, chicken, Vienna Sausages, beef, Spam, stew, etc. Ramen noodles are also a good choice. Food baskets are located in the narthex and the Parish Hall. Also, we are pleased to announce that we have received a grant for the coming year from Health Foundation of Kershaw County in the amount of $5,400.00 to aid in keeping our pantry stocked for those in need.

NEEDED: GENTLY USED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

Thanks to those who have brought in walking canes and a walker. We continue to collect gently used medical equipment. Crutches, canes, wheelchairs and walkers are some suggestions. These will be included in our food pantry for anyone who has need of them. We ask only that they be clean and in usable condition. Thank you for your generosity.

ELECTRONIC GIVING AT ST. MARY MAGDALENE

Donations and electronic tithing are now available on our web page at marymagdaleneanglican.org. Just look for the donate button on the header of the home page. It has been set up to work on both the home page of computer screens and on the home page of hand held devices.

If you are making your regular tithe, click in the select fund box and choose general fund. ALL REGULAR TITHES GO TO THE GENERAL FUND.

If you choose to donate to any other funds, such as building, endowment, Rector’s discretionary fund or designated giving, please go into the system separately for each donation. This eliminates duplicate reports being sent to the Treasurer.

Once you have selected the fund and the amount you are giving, you will have the opportunity at the end of the session to cover the administrative cost and, if you can, we would appreciate it if you would do that. It is a small charge. Once you have completed your giving and clicked the button to finish, you will receive within a minute or so a receipt thanking you for your donation that you can use as a record, although a full recap of your yearly giving is recorded and provided by Subsplash. It is our hope and intention that this will make it easier on some of our parishioners to give.

VISITORS AND GUESTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. COMMUNION IS CELEBRATED EVERY SUNDAY.

JOKE OF THE WEEK FROM JOSEPH MATHESON

Early one moming Ted, an avid hunter, woke up ready to bag the first deer of the season. As he entered the kitchen for breakfast, he was surprised to find his wife, Debbie, sitting there, fully dressed in hunter's camouflage. "What are you doing?" Ted asked. Debbie smiled. "I'm going hunting with you!" Ted reluctantly decided to take Debbie along.

Upon arriving at the hunting site, Ted set Debbie up in the tree stand and said: "If you see a deer, take careful aim and fire. I'll come running back as soon as I hear the shot."

Ted walked away expecting not a sound from Debbie's stand. But "within ten minutes he was startled to hear an array of gunshots. As Jake ran back to Debbie's location, he heard her yelling: "Get away from my deer!"

Confused, Ted ran even faster toward his screaming wife. Again he heard her yell: "Get away from my deer!" Then Debbie let loose with another volley of gunfire.
Coming into sight of Debbie's stand, Ted was shocked
to see a cowboy, with his hands held high in the air. The distraught cowboy, tying to defuse the situation, said: "Okay, lady, okay! You can have your deer! Just let me get my saddle off it!"
